Hey guys, if you have any programming questions you can leave them here. I'll try to answer all of them, but I do not know everything, but I can especially help you in networking.

Hey Jon, I was browsing for a java server with 39dll, and actually stumbled on a post that you made. The download is "invalid", but I was wondering how difficult and how much time it would take to rewrite my gm server to a java server. I think Id be way better off with java, mainly for the multitreading. I took 1 year in programming in college but remember next to nothing when it comes to java now..

I'm not sure on how long it'll take to rewrite a GM server to a Java server that solely depends on how much code you need to write, but I don't think it'll be very difficult. In my opinion java isn't that difficult especially if you use a great IDE like eclipse. As for the download link not working I'm not sure why that is happening, but I'm actually kinda happy that's the case, the code had some bugs that I didn't notice until much later after I posted it. If you would like I can try to make an other example it would probably take me about a week to find time and complete it.

I threw a fair amount of work into it so far. I might be interested in another example, but Id say wait until Aktena is either ready for testing or even a 1st release. Also, would java be able to create a rudimentary game, like just a platformer, with collision amongst other objects and no animations, or should I consider finding another example using 39dll for what Im after? I dont really know how to go about it any other way.

Well for deciding whether or not to create your server in Java I'll list a few bonuses that I have since Aktena's server is in java. - Faster Server
- Access to more examples of code and help ( you will be able to find more help on networking coding in java than game maker)
- Able to host server on remote server( I use Amazon Web Services the first year for the server that I'm currently using I believe is free.)
- It's faster to code a server for me than in Game Maker
- And almost any computer can run java, so I sometimes put the server on one of my linux computers.
As creating a simple platform game in Java, it'll be a little harder than in game maker, I believe probably hard than writing a server to be honest, but there a great tools to help you. In aktena we use a map maker called "Tiled" www.mapeditor.org/ there are some java scripts for the map editor that makes it easy for you to draw your map on screen, I personally have no experience with those scripts as we use our own to just collect the collision info for the server.

Then Ill be game for a server example, would you be able to create 1 with just players as a ball or square that just move only left and right? I could probably go from there. And again, no rush on this.
