In this thread you can ask any questions you'd like.
Little info about the game:
Aktena is an MMORPG being developed in Game Maker studios with a server being coded in java, currently the game only has 1 class (barbarian), but the plan is 6. The quest system in the game works along with npc dialog. The fighting includes a basic auto attacks that will attack at the rate of your weapons attack rate and you can use skills you acquire from your skill tree.

Hi there, just wondering what the reasons are behind you using Java for the server?
I've been making a simple mmo, things works great locally, but when I test over the internet i get wrong data in buffers and stuff...
I've checked all my buffer codes twice to make sure they are the same type etc...
TLDR: Why using Java for the server? My game breaks online but not locally, researching stuff to fix said game.

Mainly for speed, it's easier for me to do this in java, and I can host the server on server hosting.

i use his java server engine, it works WAY better than if you were to use game maker for several reasons, the main one being, with java, u can multi-thread, game maker, u cant. Another being java has ACTUAL OOC Example code for easily tapping into my servers custom event engine: public static List<EntityPlayer> players = new CopyOnWriteArrayList<EntityPlayer>();
@EventHandler
public void onPlayerJoin(PlayerLogin data) {
print("Login");
//testing with sending data
players.add(data.player);
//send the test map data to the player
MapRegistry.mapDefault.sendToPlayer(data.player);
}
@EventHandler
public void onPlayerLogout(PlayerLogout data) {
print("Logout");
players.remove(data.player);
}
it even looks sexier than GML
